Two Vendors You Don’t Want To Miss at the Alaska State Fair
The Alaska State Fair is a once-per-year explosion of fun with concerts, vendors, and really great food. Alaskans love the fair because it gives us the opportunity to enjoy things we don’t often get to experience, like carnival rides and live music, but it also is an incredible showcase for Alaska-based businesses.
Everybody knows Husky Burger, the Old Time Photos, and caricature drawings, which are awesome, but there are a couple of other vendors I think you should check out.

YO! SPRAY ME!
Have you stopped at Charles (Chaz) Oakley’s Yo Spray Me booth at the fair yet? Chances are you have over the years – his booth has become a staple at the fair, as has his radio voice and his ability to weave a tale. But in case you haven’t stopped at Yo Spray Me, let me encourage you to be sure to make the time to visit this year.
Charles runs an incredible live artwork painting demo using spray paint – but not just any spray paint. Most of his paint is rescued from the landfill reclamation center. One thing he loves to say is, “Better on the wall than in the ground.” Recycling is a work of art for him. He truly turns someone’s trash into another person’s treasure – and his paintings are absolutely GORGEOUS!
In his studio outside of the fair, he does custom painting using acrylics, oils, airbrush, and of course, spray paint. He also does custom-carved sculptures.
You can find Yo Spray Me on the Green Trail near the Rat Race and next door to Wax Hands. Be sure to follow him on Instagram, too!
ALPINE FIT
Imagine this: Clothing that’s made BY Alaskans, For Alaskans, that’s rugged enough for LIVING in ALASKA. Sound like a pipe-dream? It actually was for a time, and longtime Alaskan Jen Loofbourrow simply had to do something about it.
As an avid outdoorswoman, she was continually seeking clothing she could wear for long hiking and camping trips that could withstand her rugged lifestyle, to no avail. Her entrepreneurial spirit kicked in, and Alpine Fit was born!
Alpine Fit clothing is designed, and field tested right here in our great state – and it’s put through the wringer! Not only does this clothing last, but it also looks great, too!
Be sure to check in at the Alpine Fit booth to see the quality and selection they offer. They have their adventure layers, including odor elimination base layer tops, bushwhacking leggings, and accessories like their merino-lined headbands, hats, and neck gaiters for Alaska adventures in any season. And get this – they even have a fitting room set up, so you can try before you buy! They offer curvier and straighter fit in every style and sizes XS – XXL.
You can find Alpine Fit under the eves of the gigantic green barn. Also, be sure to follow them on Instagram.
