The tagline at Reel Ak Jewelry says it all. He catches. She creates. That pretty much sums it up! Colleen’s husband is a commercial fisherman. He provides all of the fish scales she can use, but she didn’t start with fish scales.

In college, Colleen started making all sorts of natural things in resin and enjoyed it, but she says when she came across fish scales, she fell in love – with the fisherman – AND his scales!

One beautiful thing about handmade jewelry is that there is always a story behind every creation and that story makes each and every piece even more beautiful. Creativity is a work, not only of the brain, but also of the heart, and when both are connected to a piece, that is when things get beautiful.

Jamie is a perfect example of where passion, creativity, and skill meet to create beautiful jewelry. Her inspiration for making jewelry started with her mom. On her last Christmas, before she passed away, Jamie had the opportunity to help her mom create several pieces of jewelry for family members, so they had something handmade by her. Since then, she says, “It’s just something I’ve been drawn to.”

Furthermore, Jamie is the caregiver for her two nieces, so her laser/engraving business helps supplement her income so she can raise her nieces and help them prepare for life as strong, capable adults.
