ALASKA HOMESTEAD CLASSES

Whether you're just getting started in your Alaska homestead life or you're an old pro, there's always something to learn.

Our homestead classes are for anyone who wants to live a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle using traditional skills and methods.

Classes can be attended in person, via live feed (not available for all classes), or by purchasing at Alaska Homestead University.

Some old-fashioned things like fresh air and sunshine are hard to beat. In our mad rush for progress and modern improvements, let's be sure we take along with us all the old-fashioned things worthwhile.

- Laura Ingalls Wilder

COMMON GROUND ALASKA FARMSTEAD

Whether you're planning a u-pick visit, picking up plants from the nursery, or attending classes, we want you to feel like part of the family.

We have four fenced acres of orchard, a large greenhouse (usually full of cantaloupe), and plenty of grassy areas to leisurely enjoy.

We grow apples, currants (red and black), honeyberries, saskatoons (serviceberries), cherries, and more!

“We have neglected the truth that a good farmer is a craftsman of the highest order, a kind of artist.”

- Wendell Berry

The Forge

In the winter months, the farmer doesn't like to just sit around so he spends most of his time in his forge making knives, jewelry, homestead tools, and more!

“When people learn to preserve the richness of the land that God has given them and the rights to enjoy the fruits of their own labors then will be the time when all shall have meat in the smokehouse corn in the crib and time to go to the election.”

- "W.C." of Rural Neck KY in a letter to Farmers Home Journal - 1892

“The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land.”

– Abraham Lincoln

CHECK OUT OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL

Our YouTube channel is filling up with tips, tricks, and advice on gardening, homesteading, Alaska living, farm tours, and whatever else we find to talk about.

Sometimes we also get to visit others around the state who are incredibly wise and inspirational!

“For the true measure of agriculture is not the sophistication of its equipment the size of its income or even the statistics of its productivity but the good health of the land.”

- Wendell Berry
